Southend University Hospital has deployed Imprivata OneSign across medical departments and wards in the Trust. The implementation followed a pilot in A&E that revealed significant efficiencies, with potential savings of 3-5 minutes per patient engagement, by adopting the Single Sign-On concept for clinical applications. The Trust maintains nearly 700 inpatient beds, with more than 4,400 staff and admitted around 100,000 patients in 2014 -15.

At the time staff were struggling with the complex access arrangements required to use the growing number of clinical and business critical applications, using many different devices. The organisation recognised that the adoption of a simplifying technology could help improve care standards; important as it faced increasing scrutiny from the Care Quality Commission and NHS Improvement.

Following the deployment of Imprivata’s solution, the staff now have fast, secure access to clinical applications, enabling them to focus more on patient care. Following the change, there has also been measurable increase in clinical satisfaction and take-up of digital services, while a seamless logon has improved security.
