Scrip studies

E-prescribing should increase safety and efficiency. The safety case is the one that trusts are focusing on now; but in the post-white paper world they are likely to look for efficiency too. Daloni Carlisle reports.

A new alternative for ePrescribing from CIS Healthcare

Theriak offers a new alternative; an ePrescribing system that offers an integrated medicines management solution. Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust and University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust are the first to implement Theriak. Both trusts are experienced ChemoCare users, and one of the most exciting developments is the interface between ChemoCare and Theriak. This allows for all medications to be viewed in both systems. In addition, drug interactions, contraindications and allergies are managed. Theriak has a range of innovative features, including a control mechanism known as DAX (Drug Advice eXpert). DAX provides a graphic representation of patients' interactions, replacing multiple pages of written text; providing users with the key information they need for medication decisions.

Ascribe's ePrescribing and Medicines Administration solution (ePMA) is continually being refined and builds on more than 25 years of clinical IT systems experience and customer input. More than 75% of NHS acute trusts use Ascribe systems, and our commitment to improving healthcare IT has made us a strategic partner for a growing number of trusts.

No more lost prescriptions, no transcription errors, no more 'paper miles' as scripts are walked to and fro across wards and hospitals. Just complete and legible prescriptions, 100% drug chart availability, comprehensive decision support systems, formulary guidance and restrictions, a complete audit trail and the ability to pre-build drug regimens that can save hours of time per doctor per day.

Information such as allergies, patient's own medications and a history of medical interventions can be entered and accessed in the ePMA system, then distributed around the Ascribe solution to where they are needed; the hospital PAS, the patient's electronic health record, the pharmacy for clinical screening and ultimately to the patient's own GP using the Ascribe eDischarge systems. If you would like to see a live demonstration please contact our sales team and book your appointment. We can provide reference sites upon request.

Front-line EPMA from the medicines management experts

When it comes to e-prescribing and administration, clinicians need to be sure that all the information is available, that all the clinical checking has been done and that they have the support of the pharmacy services behind them.

For nearly 30 years, JAC has been developing and expanding an integrated medicines management solution that extends from the pharmacy to the front-line. With half of NHS trusts now using the JAC solution as their primary medicines management system, we have developed an unrivalled expertise in this uniquely complex field.

Today, we are proud to say that we have completed trust-wide roll-outs of EPMA in adult, paediatric and mental health settings across the UK. We look forward to continuing working closely with all of our clients to ensure safe and efficient medicines management for everyone.
