5 Boroughs Partnership NHS Foundation Trust has awarded a contract to CSE for its RiO clinical information system.

EHI understands the trust, which signed the contract earlier this month, is the second of seven in the North West clinical information systems framework group to award a contract.

A spokesperson from the trust told EHI that it would implement RiO across its mental health, learning disabilities and community health services.

RiO is one of four systems on the framework led by NHS Shared Business Services – alongside Ascribe, Civica, and Strand Technology.

The North West framework was first launched in 2011 and the agreement was published in January 2012.

5 Boroughs previously told EHI it had spent a significant amount of time setting out its requirements before engaging with suppliers.

In 2009, 5 Boroughs became the first mental health trust to go live with CSC’s Lorenzo Regional Care Release 1, which it received under NPfIT.

The system was only deployed in its Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services, but EHI reported at the time that Lorenzo would eventually replace the trust’s other cinical systems such as its iSoft iPM patient administration system, also from CSC.

Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust was the first trust on the framework to select a supplier when it picked Civica’s Paris earlier this year.

Pennine Care was also due to receive Lorenzo. It spent £3.2m preparing to implement Lorenzo Release 1.9 under NPfIT as the first mental health ‘early adopter’, but withdrew in May 2011 and joined the framework.

The five other trusts on the framework are; Greater Manchester West Mental Health NHS Trust; Cheshire and Wirral Partnership NHS Foundation Trust; Cumbria Partnership Mental Health NHS Trust; Mersey Care NHS Trust; and Manchester Mental Health and Social Care.

Investigations by EHI reveal the trusts are at various stages of the call-off process.

Cumbria is focusing on migrating its services to EMIS systems, while Cheshire and Wirral still has several years left on current contracts and does not plan to go out to procurement yet.
