Mental Healthcare has historically been beleaguered by chronic understaffing, a lack of funding and stigma associated with mental health, and as a result, has been neglected as an increasing public health issue. However, with high profile media attention now being paid to the importance of mental health, we are seeing the beginnings of a shifting tide. Mental health is now one of the highest national clinical priorities, second only to cancer, and the promise of a minimum £2 billion cash injection creates countless opportunities to improve delivery of care services and the lives of patients.

Digital Health published a Special Report in October, exploring the possibility of improving patient care by using technology to bridge the gap between physical and mental healthcare provision. In exploring global best practices, Cambio Healthcare System’s Solutions Director, Nick Harte pointed to Sweden, explaining that “real benefits flow when communications between mental health and other services improve.” In Sweden, integrated electronic patient record covering all of the health system, including mental health, has been in practice for over 20 years, with real clinical, operational and financial benefits being realised due to the difference it makes in clinicians’ and patients’ lives.

This event will bring together Senior Executives and experts across the UK NHS and Swedish mental health landscape to:

    • Surface realistic opportunities for the use of technology to enable mental health services across the country
    • Discuss and share best digital practices with proven and realisable benefits
    • Recognise the need for a “new generation” of healthcare IT vendors, with true customer partnership, patient safety and outcomes, and interoperability between systems at their core
    • Establish mental health as a pioneer in a digitised NHS
