Using PACS and RIS data: see what can be done

Picture archiving and communications and radiology information systems hold a wealth of data, and suppliers are working with trusts to make sure they can make best use of it.

Kim Thomas discovers how imaging data can be used to understand how a healthcare organisation is running, and how new predictive analytics could be used to support patient care.

Population health management: analysing change

There is growing interest in population health management – or aggregating data from multiple systems, often held by different organisations, to inform changes to clinical, service and financial outcomes.

The idea has been around for a while, so why is this happening now? Lyn Whitfield hears that work on data, infrastructure information governance is supporting the work, but the big driver is policy.

Unearthing the diagnostic goldmine – contributing to wider hospital intelligence

Radiology could represent a far more important part of a hospital’s business intelligence. Sectra’s Chris Scarisbrick explores a goldmine that the NHS must look to unearth.

It’s an age old story. The NHS has less whilst being asked to do more. Diagnostic departments are no exception with less cash, revenue and capital, and a requirement to meet increasing demand.

But could greater intelligence within our diagnostic departments, and greater use of a rich source of information held within the ‘ologies’, now be about to make a serious difference to the effectiveness and efficiency of the wider hospital enterprise? Are hospitals taking full advantage of diagnostic information? And is enough being done to provide disciplines like radiology with the departmental intelligence needed?
