University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust is implementing MetaVision SafeTrack across 57 wards, using money from the second round of the Nursing Technology Fund.

It is also equipping 3,000 nurses and midwives with mobile devices, so they can use the system to replace paper observations.

The iMDSoft system will automate Modified Early Warning Score calculations and alerts for conditions such as sepsis, kidney failure, and blood clots.

The implementation follows the trust’s choice of MetaVision Patient Data Management for its high acuity environments in November 2014, which is now being implemented in 100 anaesthesia and intensive care beds.

The trust anticipates that the two systems will improve patient safety, patient experience, and the prioritisation of care for its sickest patients; shortening length of stay and so reducing costs.
