5 Boroughs Partnership NHS Foundation Trust plans an October go-live of its RiO electronic patient record system.
The trust was the second of seven trusts in the North West clinical information systems framework group to award a contract, when it signed with Serverlec Healthcare in July last year.
It is now planning to deploy the system across its mental health, learning disabilities and community health services, beginning with community health, which will be live by October.
A spokesperson from the trust told EHI that the first cohort of staff to use RiO will be teams working in physical health services. They will be followed by two further cohorts, “with an ambition that all services are live by July 2015.”
“Working towards our objective to become a paper-lite organisation, we will initially implement the electronic recording of patient registration details (using NHS Numbers for ease of access), clinic appointments, waiting lists and clinical records,” said the spokesperson.
“Later in the year, our musculoskeletal and podiatry services will benefit from direct bookable appointments, with this facility being extended to other services over the next 12 months.
“In 2015 we will work with our local health partners to implement electronic laboratory requests and reporting along with electronic e-discharge notifications for GPs.”
5 Boroughs became the first mental health trust to go-live with CSC’s Lorenzo Regional Care Release 1, which it received under the National Programme for IT in 2009.
The system was slated to be used across the North, Midlands of England, but suffered a series of development and deployment delays.
At 5 Boroughs, it was only deployed in child and adolescent mental health services. The trust later went on to join the framework in order to get a new clinical information system.
RiO is one of four systems on the framework led by NHS Shared Business Services – alongside software from Ascribe, Civica, and Strand Technology.
The North West framework was first launched in 2011 and the agreement was published in January 2012. However, most of the trusts on the framework are focusing on “other projects”.
EHI understands that Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust, which went live with Civica’s Paris earlier this year, is the only other trust to have taken a system from the framework.
Cumbria Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, which chose Servelec Healthcare as a preferred bidder in August, was also on the framework, but opted to run an open OJEU procurement instead.
The other trusts on the framework are; Greater Manchester West Mental Health NHS Trust; Cheshire and Wirral Partnership NHS Foundation Trust; Mersey Care NHS Trust; and Manchester Mental Health and Social Care.
