HSE and System C roll out CareFlow Pharmacy across Ireland
- 17 June 2026
- System C CareFlow Pharmacy is to be rolled out across all public hospitals in the Republic of Ireland under a national HSE agreement
- Nine hospitals are live, with 12 more deployments planned during 2026 and a further 34 sites to follow
- The system aims to improve medication safety, inventory management and prescription oversight
The Health Service Executive (HSE) and System C have announced the next phase of a national agreement that will see CareFlow Pharmacy deployed in every hospital across the Republic of Ireland.
Nine hospitals are now live following a deployment programme, with a further 12 sites scheduled to go live during 2026. A third phase, due to begin later this year, will extend the rollout to the remaining 34 hospitals to give Ireland an integrated digital pharmacy system across its entire public hospital network.
Guy Lucchi, managing director of healthcare at System C, said: “The success of this rollout is a testament to the close collaboration between System C and the HSE.
“Together, we’re not just implementing technology, we’re co-creating a digital ecosystem that supports clinicians, empowers patients, and strengthens the health service for the future. We look forward to continuing this acceleration across Ireland in 2026 and beyond.”
The deployment modernises the HSE’s pharmacy infrastructure to enhance medication safety, inventory control, and operational efficiency across the health service.
According to System C, the system replaces paper-based prescription processes to bring transparency and cost control to potentially billions of euros worth of previously untracked drug prescriptions.
System C’s CareFlow Pharmacy is an integrated system that consolidates information on medications, patients, prescribers, suppliers, and finances, which System C says can help reduce waste and lower operational costs.
The company says the deployment aligns with the HSE’s strategic goal of building strong foundations by digitising and standardising pharmacy services, helping to improve patient outcomes.
Throughout 2025, the HSE and System C worked together on a national programme to deploy CareFlow Pharmacy across multiple hospitals in Ireland.
The rollout commenced at The Rotunda Hospital in March and subsequently expanded to St. Vincent’s University Hospital, Children’s Health Ireland at Crumlin, Phoenix Care Centre, Connolly Hospital Blanchardstown, South Infirmary-Victoria University Hospital, and most recently Tallaght University Hospital, which went live in November 2025.
Including the two earlier implementations at Galway and Merlin Park prior to 2025, a total of nine hospitals are now live with CareFlow Pharmacy.
Of the 12 hospitals scheduled for deployment in 2026, four are already in rollout, with the fourth site scheduled to go live in June 2026
Work on the third phase is scheduled to begin later this year, running in parallel with the ongoing 2026 rollout.
Once complete, the programme will see CareFlow Pharmacy deployed across more than fifty hospital sites nationwide.
In April 2026, System C completed the rollout of its BadgerNet maternity platform across all seven NHS health boards in Wales, creating a single national digital maternity record and patient-facing app.
