Personal Health Record platform Patients Know Best (PKB) has announced a strategic investment from DNV to expand its single patient record (SPR) functionality.

The investment will be used to enable new capabilities and accelerate international growth.

Dr Mohammad Al-Ubaydli, chief executive and founder of PKB, said: “We are thrilled to welcome DNV as a true partner.Ā

ā€œThis is a strategic alignment with a foundation that believes in our mission and with which we share great synergies.Ā

ā€œDNV’s global reach, well-connected network, and ethical alignment with our status as a social enterprise are exactly what we were looking for in a partner.ā€

In December 2024 PKB won the SPR contract for the state of Lagos in Nigeria, with a population of 20 million. Other new territories include the Netherlands and Germany.

The investment from independent assurance and risk management provider DNV will support growth through this global expansion, alongside continuing to scale the business in the UK and target new verticals, levering its population health management engine.

PKB says that the funding follows a selection process to secure investment from a business that shares its values and ambitions.

Stephen McAdam, segment director for digital health at DNV, and an expert in sustainable healthcare, will join the PKB board.

McAdam said: ā€œDNV has long-term strategic ambitions in healthcare.Ā

ā€œWithin digital health, we are committed to building a strong portfolio of investments that help tackle the critical challenges of data security, data quality and data sharing.Ā

ā€œWe have followed PKB’s progress for several years and are convinced that their approach of empowering patients will not only contribute to improving data quality and data sharing, but also to enhancing healthcare efficiency and achieving better outcomes for patients.ā€Ā

PKB’s solution is used by more than 25% of NHS England’s providers and in 2020 was the first PHR to integrate with the NHS App.Ā It hosts the records of 20 million UK patients, with more than 5.6 million registered patients.Ā Ā

Around two million patients have added their GP record into their PKB record since the feature launched on 1st May 2025. The service, accessible via NHS login, allows adult patients to store a copy of data their GP has released in their PKB personal record, bringing together their health data into one place.

PKB announced in January 2025 that it had secured £6m in funding to scale its personal health record platform in the UK and expand internationally.

A spokesperson for PKB said that the firm is not sharing figures in the investment because “the partnership goes beyond the financial investment”.

“DNV also brings strategic value through international networks, expertise and guidance which strengthens our ability to deliver on our plans,” they added.
