Worcestershire Health and Care NHS Trust will deploy an integrated electronic patient records system from Oasis Medical Solutions.

The trust has announced that it is to work with Northgate Public Services and Oasis on a project to create integrated and accessible EPRs.

The trust was formed just over a year ago and runs services previously provided by NHS Worcestershire and Worcestershire Mental Health Partnership NHS Trust.

Mark Dickens, its adult mental health delivery unit service lead, said its staff needed to be able to access records from a wide range of settings and update them promptly.

The trust is planning to use Oasis’ OneView system to help it achieve this. OneView is aimed at trusts looking to develop a ‘best of breed’ approach to creating an electronic patient record.

It is already in use at a number of neighbouring trusts, including Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust, where it is at the heart of a ‘best of breed’ strategy developed by the then-IT director John Thornbury.

In a statement, Dickens said: “We care for our patients in a very wide range of settings, from home visits through a range of clinics to community hospitals and acute mental health facilities.

“It is vital that wherever we meet and engage with our service users we have access to accurate and up to date information, and that we can update those records promptly. This is what the OneView system will give us and help to improve productivity within all our care settings.”

Kal Vaikla, managing director of Oasis, said it would work with Northgate to deliver and support the new EPR, developing some of the applications that would run from it, and working with partner companies on others.

Both companies said they were “delighted” to be working with the trust, which is in the process of signing off on a new IT strategy.
