The deadline for the EHI Awards 2016 has been extended; but only until the end of the week.

The annual awards recognise the great work being done by healthcare IT teams and companies across the country, and culminate in a black tie dinner in central London in the autumn.

So far, around 80 entries have been received for the ten categories in this year’s awards, but Solene Singer, senior marketing manager at Informa, which is managing the awards for the second year, said there was always a rush towards the closing date.

“The entries so far show that the awards remain as popular as ever, and that they are valued as a way for those involved in UK-based projects to get the recognition they deserve for their work,” she said.

“We want to give as many people as possible the chance to enter. But the awards really must close on Friday to give the judges time to assess the entries before the judging day later this summer.”

The categories up for grabs this year range from ‘Digital NHS trust or health board of the year’ and ‘CCIO award for clinical informatics leadership’ to awards that recognise projects and products in areas as diverse as analytics and clinical safety.

A full list of the awards categories, and guidance on how to enter, is available on their website, which also explains how to sponsor an award and book a table at the awards dinner, which this year takes place at the Lancaster Hotel in London on 29 September.

Last year, the overall award went to Connecting Care, a project to create an integrated digital care record for Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire.

The previous year’s overall winners were Blithe Computer Systems and Dean Street Express for their fast, automated service to deliver sexual health services to a diverse, drop-in patient group.

The winners in 2013 and 2012 were the Mersey Burns App, which enables doctors to quickly and accurately assess the extent of a burn, and Logica’s Defence Medical Information Capability Programme, which serves the armed forces.
