This month’s Movers and Shakers round-ups features appointments across various industry organisations including BenevolentAI, Xerox and Aneurin Bevan University Health Board.
Ian Churcher has accepted the role of vice president of Drug Discovery at BenevolentAI, one of the world’s largest private AI companies.
Churcher has extensive experience in drug discovery holding a range of senior leadership positions spanning many therapeutic areas. He joins BenevolentBio from GSK where he headed a Discovery Performance Unit focused on progressing new approaches to drug discovery including pioneering development of Protein Degradation technology. Previously Churcher led a range of groups at GSK in the areas of medicinal chemistry, new technology and drug discovery and held a visiting professorial appointment at the University of Oxford.
Dan Warne, Deliveroo managing director UK, joins the board of new healthcare startup Qure. The London-based company delivers doctors to the doors of residents around the clock.
Bringing a deep understanding of how to scale businesses from scratch, particularly in the on-demand space, Warne brings with him three years of operational experience from Deliveroo, and expertise from previous roles with Travelzoo, Orange and Global Radio. He will work closely with Qure’s founders, Charlie Harington and Alex Templeton.
Jonathan Elliott has been appointed director and general manager of the Xerox UK Public Sector team.
In his new role, Elliott is responsible for driving business growth across managed document services and technology to expand Xerox’s presence across the UK public sector market. Currently, Xerox provides document management and technology to a wide range of public sector organisations including Department for Work and Pensions, Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust and Poole Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.
Gordie Nye has been appointed by medical device company Atlantic Therapeutics as its chairman.
After working with Gillette and Reebok, Nye forged his career as a chief executive and director of venture and private equity-backed medical device start-ups and buyouts. Nye is currently chief executive of R2 Dermatology, a start-up that is set to commercialise a Harvard University technology – familiar territory for Nye who did the same at ZELTIQ, the maker of CoolSculpting, arguably the most valuable device company in the Aesthetics industry.
Steve Leatherland joins Fujifilm as its professional services manager for modalities.
He will oversee all post-acquisitio
n elements of the modalities business including applications, project management, install and service teams. Fujifilm is investing heavily in its service provision this year to support the increasing demand for the company’s equipment. Leatherland’s appointment is a key element in the service strategy which includes a new management structure, a significant increase in service staff and a revised service structure. He brings a sustained record of achievement in operations, customer service and business development.
Harold “Hal” Wolf III has been appointed the new HIMSS president and chief executive officer. Wolf will succeed H. Stephen Lieber, who is stepping down as HIMSS chief executive after more than 17 years.
Wolf has more than three decades of experience working in healthcare and technology, with deep expertise in integrated care models, consumer engagement, broadband and other IT innovation. Most recently, he has served as director of information and digital health strategy at The Chartis Group, where he helped health systems in the development of integrated information, operations, digital health and precision medicine strategies. Prior to that, Wolf spent 10 years as chief operating officer of Kaiser Permanente’s Federation.
Leon Douglas will join Whittington Health NHS Trust as its chief information officer (CIO). He replaces Glenn Winteringham who was appointed CIO for Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust in March last year. Douglas will join Whittington Health at the end of September this year. He currently holds the title of chief information technology officer at Health Innovation Network.
Ann Lloyd CBE has been appointed chair of Aneurin Bevan University Health Board. She replaces David Jenkins. Jan Williams OBE has been appointed chair of Public Health Wales NHS Trust. She replaces Sir Mansel Aylward, and will commence her four year term of office on 5 September 2017. Marcus Longley has been appointed chair of Cwm Taf University Health Board. He replaces Chris Jones, and will commence his four year term of office on 1, October 2017. The appointments have been made in accordance with the Governance Code on Public Appointments.
