Despite the clear recommendations in the Wachter report (2016) to strengthen and grow the CCIO field, clinical informaticians across the four nations continue to describe inconsistencies in the remits of their roles. You only need to read through the numerous discussion threads on the Digital Health Discourse channel to see the extent of the issue.

To help address this issue, the FCI called upon a working group to develop a model job description for a CCIO, utilising the FCI Core Competency Framework for clinical informaticians. The FCI model job description will be published in September 2021 and users will be asked to provide feedback to be incorporated in future revisions.

We want to know:

  • if it’s fit for purpose?
  • whether it can make a difference to help standardise this role?
  • what other environmental factors are needed for CCIOs to be given the recognition and authority they need in order to achieve a better patient experience?

In this session we’ll hear from a diverse range leading clinical informaticians about their experiences of the CCIO role.  We warmly invite you to join this session and use it as an opportunity to share your own experiences.
