One of key recommendations from the report of the FCI’s Core Competency Framework (CF) Initiative was to review job descriptions for CCIO roles. The FCI was aware anecdotally that there was inconsistency in terms of content of JDs and a desire from its membership to have guidance in addressing this. The purpose of this work, therefore, was to develop a resource, endorsed by the FCI and based on its CF, for members to use within their own organisations to support professionalisation of the CCIO.

A multi-professional working group, supported by an FCI project manager, developed assessment criteria based on the six domains of the CF and reviewed 41 existing JDs provided by FCI members. Findings supported the anecdotal evidence. Guidance was subsequently developed and includes an exemplar JD, with the recommendation that organisations use this when developing JDs and that existing CCIO’s review their own JDs and negotiate locally to ensure that these align with the FCI CF.
