  • 2 December 2009

Agfa Healthcare has announced that it has signed more than 40 new agreements for its Orbis hospital information system (HIS) since the beginning of the year.

The agreements include several new contracts in France with the Centre Hospitalier Universitaire du Mans, the Centre Hospitalier Universitaire de Montpellier, and the Centre Hospitalier Intercommunal de Créteil.

In Belgium, the company won deals with the Centre Hospitalier Emilie Mayrisch and with hospitals in Luxembourg including the ZOL Genk hospital and St Lucas hospital in Ghent, which have already started implementing the system.

The company also signed deals in Germany with St Theresien Hospital in Mannheim the SLK group in Heilbronn and made several further deals in Austria and Switzerland.

The system, which manages and monitors process orientated processes and provides complete availability of patients’ histories, including images and administrative data, is only available in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, France Belgium and Luxembourg.

Dr Volker Wetekam, vice president IT Division at Agfa HealthCare, said: “Agfa HealthCare’s IT division has continued to successfully achieve its planned growth in 2009 and has, as a result, re-enforced its leading European HIS position in the market.

“The success of the solution is, in part, based on our continued drive to deliver new and innovative solutions for ORBIS, including new clinical applications and the interface certification by SAP. We look forward to a successful full year result for ORBIS and further growth in the years to come.”

Despite the contract wins Agfa has still seen a significant drop in its overall sales in its healthcare division. In November the company announced that its sales had continued to decrease dropping by 5.5% compared with last years figures.

During Q3 of 2009 AGFA Gavaert said that is healthcare division made net sales of €275m, down from 2008 sales when Q3 sales were €291m.
