Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust (LTHT) has deployed Annalise.ai’s AI chest X-ray solution to speed up diagnosis and improve patient care.

More than 135,000 chest X-rays are performed at LTHT every year, many of which are crucial for making urgent clinical decisions.

The software, which went live at LTHT in May 2025, will act as a ‘second pair of eyes’ for clinicians, identifying up to 85 different findings, including findings suggestive of lung cancer, acute infections, and incorrectly placed feeding and breathing tubes, with results delivered in minutes.

Dr Fahmid Chowdhury, consultant radiologist and clinical lead for the project at LTHT, said: “This technology is about putting patients first.

“By helping busy frontline staff detect serious conditions quickly and accurately, Annalise’s Enterprise CXR solution will support clinical decision-making and allow us to get patients the treatment they need faster.

“Such large-scale evaluations of the use of AI in everyday clinical practice should provide crucial information to inform our future use of AI to improve the quality of care that we provide to our patients.”

Backed by the NHS AI Diagnostic Fund and delivered through the Yorkshire Imaging Collaborative, LTHT has also partnered with  vendor-neutral platform Newton’s Tree to bring Annalise’s solution to its hospitals.

The software may also play a role in patient safety, helping to detect critical conditions such as chest sepsis promptly and reducing the risk of avoidable complications.

Annalise.ai’s solutions are capable of detecting up to 124 findings on chest X-rays and up to 130 findings on non-contract head CT scans. They can also be customised for a wide range of clinical scenarios and care settings.

Dr Aengus Tran, cofounder and chief executive of Annalise.ai, said: “We are happy to partner with LTHT and Newton’s Tree to bring our AI-powered diagnostic support to the frontline of patient care.

“This collaboration is a testament to our commitment to enhancing diagnostic accuracy and efficiency for the NHS with proven, highly sophisticated technologies.”

In May 2024, six imaging networks in England selected Annalise.ai as their preferred provider to support early lung cancer diagnosis through NHS England’s AI Diagnostic Fund.

The £21 million fund, announced by NHSE in June 2023, aims to spur the deployment of AI and machine learning tools that can speed up the diagnosis and treatment of serious illness including cancer, stroke and heart conditions.

Following tender wins under the AIDF, the Annalise.ai chest X-ray tool will be available to radiologists across the Greater Manchester Imaging Network, North East and North Cumbria Imaging Network, Cheshire and Merseyside Radiology Imaging Network, East Midlands Imaging Network, Surrey, Sussex and Frimley Imaging Network, and the Yorkshire Imaging Collaborative.
