The Ambient Assisted Living Forum will take place from 15-17 September in Odense, Denmark.

The three day event will cover several streams including international cooperation, research for AAL purposes, politics and policy, changing the model of innovation through user engagement and technology, platforms, standards, interoperability.

The event will also consist of a series of ‘Robo Days’ as part of the robot technology festival around Odense town and Odence Congress Centre.

The full list of speakers is yet to be published, but confirmed speakers include Anker Boye, mayor of the city of Odense, Karl Holst, chairman of region of Southern Denmark, Lena Gustavsson, president of the Ambient Assisted Living Joint Programme Association and a high level representative from the European Commission.

Claus Nielsen, AAL Forum 2010 programme committee chair, said: “The Programme Committee plans an exciting programme, with focus on presenting innovative smart solutions to tackle the challenges inherent to our ageing societies.

"It aims to provide a both digital and physical platform for all stakeholders – investors, researchers, policy makers, industry providers and end-users – to discuss smart solutions for an improved quality of life in later years.

“We are planning exciting projects, like the world’s largest live experiment with ambient intelligence during the AAL Forum at the premises of Odense Congress Centre.”

The AAL JP is a joint research and development funding programme implemented by 20 European Member States.

The programme is part funded by the European Commission and aims to enhance the quality of life of older people and strengthen the industrial base in Europe through the use of information and communication technologies

The programme will initially run for five years from 2008-2013 with a planned total budget of €700m, 50% of which is public funding from AAL partner states and the European Commission and 50% from private funding.

The funding is mainly spent on R&D projects that results from regularly published calls for proposals.
