Agfa makes move on patient kiosks

  • 3 November 2010

Agfa healthcare has become the latest health technology company to offer patient check-in kiosks as part of its product portfolio.

The Belgian company, which traditionally provides diagnostic imaging systems, has launched the Impax kiosk, which enables patients to register with and check-in to hospital services.

Sarah Muckler, senior marketing manager for Agfa Healthcare, said: “For the patient, traditional check-in means waiting in a line before being afforded the opportunity to be personally checked-in by a receptionist. This can take 15 minutes or more.”

The company says the new system reduces check-in time to five minutes. The kiosk also allows patients to view and confirm demographic and insurance information and electronically sign consent documents.

However, no patient data is stored in the kiosk itself. The kiosk includes options for using different languages, clinic messaging announcements, personalised messages to patients, privacy for confidential transactions, and the addition of finger print readers, credit card readers, and scanners for documents.

It can be fully integrated into Agfa’s Impax radiology information system to provide real time patient status updates.

Muckler added: “The solution not only improves the ability to identify patients easily and allow for electronic signature but also helps reduce the likelihood of data entry errors, contributing to up to date, accurate and complete patient records.”
