NHS Dorset is searching for volunteers to join its Digital Public Engagement Group, to help develop and shape future digital health and care services for people in the region.

The Digital Public Engagement Group will be working closely with NHS Dorset and other health and care partners on several projects. The projects are focused on improving physical and mental health, including maternity and women’s health, cancer and long-term conditions such as diabetes and asthma.

Stephen Slough, chief digital information officer, NHS Dorset, said: “There are many exciting developments in technology that have already become part of everyday life over the last few years and there is no doubt that using these effectively can help people with both their own health and that of their loved ones.

“Thousands of people in Dorset are already using things like home monitoring devices, health apps or online consultations enabling them to take control of their own health, at the same time helping to ease day-to-day pressures on services.

“DPEG (Digital Public Engagement Group) members are made up of people from all ages and walks of life, so whether you are already tech-savvy or just have a passing interest please do get in touch.”

The Digital Public Engagement Group was formed in 2021 and now has over 30 members who have lived experience across Dorset, including those currently using technology to manage existing long-term conditions.

The role of the group is to provide advance and challenge for system-wide development of digital health and care technologies, services and communications across the region. It works to improve outcomes and experiences for all patients in Dorset.

Patient groups like the DPEG have a vital role to play in pushing forward the digital agenda. The OneLondon Citizen Advisory Group – a group of 100 Londoners who help guide policymakers on how health and care data is used – finalised their recommendations for joining up health and care information, last summer.

Applications to join the group are open until 1 May 2024.
