North West Ambulance Service NHS Trust (NWAS) will digitise its medicine inventory process with a digital pharmacy stock management solution.

The system will provide NWAS with a fully cloud-hosted platform for medicines inventory management and medicines assembly workflows for the kits used in ambulances across the region.

System C’s CareFlow Medicines Management Pharmacy system and TMS Insight’s Prescription Tracking System will be delivered under the three-year contract.

Rachael Fallon, chief pharmacist at NWAS, said: “As a statutory emergency service, medicines form a crucial part in the patient care we can offer.

“This partnership consolidates the digital management of medicines at the Medicines Supply Hub providing procurement, goods receipt, stock management, assembly of medicines kits, distribution, invoice reconciliation, and reporting.

“By digitising these critical processes, we’re able to retire legacy systems that we are unable to support and improve the accessibility of data across the medicines team.”

NWAS will use the solution to manage all aspects of medicines handling at their Medicines Supply Hub, including the assembly and distribution of pre-packed ‘grab bags’ used in emergency response.

Each kit will be digitally managed, ensuring recording of the contents that is auditable. This enables the retirement of legacy systems that can no longer be supported.

Guy Lucchi, managing director of healthcare at System C, said: “We’re delighted to be partnering with North West Ambulance Service to digitise their medicines management processes.

“This partnership builds on System C’s growing footprint in the ambulance sector and demonstrates our continued leadership and commitment to medicines management technology for this critically important national service.”

Meanwhile, The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust launched an electronic patient record from System C in October 2025 as part of its digital transformation programme.

The CareFlow EPR, which went live on 29 September 2025, is being delivered in phases to unify several legacy systems into a single, trust-wide platform.
