Triple G Systems Group, Inc., a Canadian-based provider of clinical laboratory automation software, has announced that University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust have signed a contract for the ULTRA Laboratory Information System (LIS).

The company will supply the NHS trust with the general lab (haematology and biochemistry), microbiology, blood bank, cellular pathology/cytology modules of its ultra system. The value of the contract was not disclosed.

In addition to approximately 20 system and analyser interfaces the ULTRA system will also be used to provide interfaces to the laboratory’s robotics and automation systems. The new system should allow the trust to streamline their processes and enhance their operations.

"We needed a solution with the flexibility to accommodate our complex workflows and integrate with our modern robotics systems," said Carl Holland, director of laboratory services, Walsgrave Hospital, Coventry.

He added: "The deployment of ULTRA will be critical to the optimization of processes within our busy new laboratory. We’re projecting that ULTRA will enable us to realize significant cost and operational benefits."

"As Triple G increases its UK user base, we’re very excited to have the opportunity to work with organisations of this calibre to integrate and automate their processes and improve patient care," said Chris Spence, Triple G’s managing director for Europe and Asia-Pacific.

University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust comprises three hospitals: Walsgrave Hospital and Coventry & Warwickshire Hospital, both based in Coventry, and the Hospital of St. Cross in Rugby. Pathology has a presence on all three sites servicing the Trust, and in addition, carries out work for Primary Care Trusts in Coventry and Warwickshire.

Triple G Systems develops and implements software that automates and integrates clinical laboratory processes. The company has over 115 licensees operating more than 415 laboratories in ten countries.

The firm’s ULTRA system is an NT-based solution for small to medium sized laboratories. All modules of ULTRA are fully integrated, allowing users complete access throughout the system.
