CLEO Systems has introduced what3words location technology into its Core clinical solution, becoming the first clinical system to do so.

The what3words technology divides the world into three metre squares and gives each square a unique combination of three words which is known as a what3words address.

The addresses gives callers a simple way to describe exactly where they are, enabling responders to find and get resources to the scene quicker, which is particularly useful for CLEO Core users in 111 call centres.

The system is available in 50 languages and works offline, making it perfect for use in areas with an unreliable data connection. The direct integration, rather than using a separate app, means contact centre teams can handle patients’ calls more efficiently, saving them time when providing details of where they are.

Chris Sheldrick, CEO and co-founder of what3words, said: “Being in urgent need of help and not being able to describe exactly where you are can be an incredibly stressful situation.

“It’s in times like these where being able to communicate your precise location in just three words can shave precious minutes off an incident response time.

“We’ve seen the impact what3words has had locating people in an emergency up and down the UK and look forward to bringing the technology to the NHS 111 services.”

CLEO Core is a fully integrated urgent care patient management solution and can support urgent and Primary Care providers to deliver healthcare services in a variety of out-of-hospital settings across the South, East and North of England.

CLEO worked with their parent company IC24 to introduce the what3words technology.

David Brown, managing director of CLEO Systems, added: “If the situation is urgent, every second is critical, so the introduction of what3words into our CLEO Core clinical system allows users to more quickly identify where people are and make sure they get the best medical response to suit their needs.

“The work that we have done with the what3words team to integrate their solution into CLEO Core puts ground-breaking technology where it is of huge value – both to the patient and urgent care service providers alike.”

The what3words location technology is not the first platform to be integrated into CLEO Systems’ CLEO Core. In November it was announced that the GoodSAM platform would be introduced, enabling emergency services to receive live video consultations via their device without the need to download an app.
