CLEO Systems has integrated the GoodSAM platform into its patient management system, enabling quick and easy video consultations.

The provider of digital solutions in primary, urgent and emergency care has worked with its parent company IC24 to introduce the app-less solution which supports urgent care video consultations.

The GoodSAM platform has been integrated with the company’s CLEO Core. Anyone calling the emergency service will be able to receive live video consultations via their device without the need to download an app.

Should a clinician decide a video consultation is necessary, they can start the consultation via CLEO Core. The patient will receive a text message containing a weblink to the consultation room, making it quick and easy for the consultation to begin.

It’s not the first time that IC24 has enabled video consultation – but it is the first time the process hasn’t required an app to be downloaded prior to the consultation.

GoodSAM went live with CLEO on 1 September 2021 and has been positively received. Dr Sanjee Rana, regional medical director at IC24, said: “As a doctor working in a Clinical Assessment Service, I have found the solution to be simple and intuitive to use, both from a patient and clinician’s perspective.

“When patients call us for help, we need to make sure that we get them the right support, in the right place at the right time and innovative technology such as this makes sure that we can help our patients receive the most efficient service possible.”

As well as enabling rapid consultations, GoodSAM also allows emergency service callers to instantly share their location. It’s Instant on the Scene feature was first launched in summer 2018 and was tested by Kent, Surrey and Sussex Air Ambulance and Great North Air Ambulance Service.

More recently however, South Central Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust turned to the GoodSAM technology in August of last year to help assess patients quickly so they can be given effective medical advice.

David Brown, managing director at CLEO Systems, added: “This new integration enables better patient care and helps support the digital transformation agenda. The use of the GoodSAM app allows in a seamless way helps our customers to support patients by providing them with efficient access to a clinician. The clinicians experience is also enhanced through a much more streamlined approach to connecting digitally with their patient.”

The service requires no downloads or logins so is ideal is situations where speed is crucial. It works on any smartphone, regardless of network. All data is securely transmitted with end-to-end encryption, and no video is recorded.

Mark Wilson, who co-founded GoodSAM with Ali Ghorbangholi, and is its OBE medical director, said: “Our core ethos at GoodSAM is utilising technology to improve patient care and our app-less video system is designed for ease of use both by patients and clinicians especially in times of urgent need.

“We are delighted to be the NHS England chosen national provider and to partner with CLEO Systems and IC24 to bring this solution to their services.”
