Re:Cognition Health opens concussion clinic featuring brain-scanning tech

Re:Cognition Health has launched a new concussion clinic in collaboration with MYndspan, using brain-scanning technology to give brain trauma patients access to insights to help monitor and accelerate their recovery.

The clinic and its sophisticated technology will allow brain health experts to identify, monitor and treat brain trauma more effectively and help improve patient outcomes by doing so.

Repeated concussion has been linked to a high risk of chronic traumatic encephalopathy, Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease. With closer monitoring and earlier identification, the risk of  potential long-term consequences can be reduced.

Dr Steve Allder, consultant neurologist at Re:Cognition Health, said: “Re:Cognition Health is thrilled to launch the concussion pathway to empower patients to manage their treatment and optimise recovery. An initial assessment is carried out at the Re:Cognition Health clinic in London, with the scanning carried out at MYndspan’s Birmingham site.

The scan uses magnetoencephalography (MEG) technology, a non-invasive procedure previously only available to research participants and in clinical settings.

The MEG scan measures electrical signals between neurons to form a detailed map of brain activity. Analysis of the scan is combined with data from app-based tests of cognitive functions to produce a complete picture of brain health.

Once all this data has been collected, the experts at Re:Cognition Health can provide patients with personalised treatment plans, including follow-up checks and further consultations as required.
