Kingsley Manning has resigned as chair of the Health and Social Care Information Centre after three years in the role.

He has written to the Secretary of State for Health to tender his resignation as of 31 May.

Manning said: “Over the last three years the HSCIC, since its formation in 2013, has made considerable progress.  However I believe that it is appropriate that the next phase of the organisation's development should be led by a new chair.”

He added: “The progress that the HSCIC has made – in successfully delivering national technology services and programmes,  in providing leadership in information governance and cyber security and in continuing to publish robust and independent statistics – is a testament to the skills of our staff and the strength of our management team.”

His decision to step down comes while NHS England is searching for a new chief information and technology officer.

The move comes just ahead of publication of the national review into information governance by Fiona Caldicott, commissioned by the Secretary of State for Health.

Manning, who has over 30 years health IT experience, is a former head of health at Tribal, now part of Capita; and was the founder and MD of health and information consultancy firm Newchurch.
