US company Patient Care Technology Systems has announced it has established a UK subsidiary to market its real-time locating systems across Europe.

The systems include products to manage patient flow, track moveable equipment and patients, monitor and document staff members’ compliance with infection protocols, and manage turnover of inpatient beds.

Devices mounted on ceilings and walls are able to track badges worn by patients throughout the hospital, allowing the system to gather real-time data about patients, their locations, movements and interactions with caregivers.

“As a result, we can determine what just happened, assess its significance, anticipate what should happen next, decide who needs to know, and then prompt them to act,” Cory Wagner, managing director of PCTS UK said.

Tony Marsico, president and chief executive of the US parent company, said that RTLS-enabled automatic tracking and workflow systems have surged over the past year.

“We have hosted multiple visits for UK visitors who have heard success stories about our US implementations.

“After seeing the systems running live and transforming operating performance and quality of practice in large, highly respected hospitals, these visitors return to the UK with a vision for how our systems can help them see more patients more quickly with the same resources.”

The UK team will focus mainly on market education and development as well as sales and marketing support for European reseller partners.

Wagner added: “Our approach to automatic tracking and workflow orchestration-focus on driving positive patient outcomes-is virtually unheard of outside the US. Our initial efforts will focus on visiting as many hospitals as possible to learn about UK workflow issues.”

Among the first EU product releases, will be the Amelior 360 Enterprise Visibility Platform, which consists of products for hospitals, A&E, operating theatres, diagnostic imaging and facility wide asset and patient tracking.

The company will also introduce Amelior 360 Hand Hygiene system which has been piloted in a major London hospital to help monitor and improve caregiver’s compliance with hand hygiene.

The company will be exhibiting at HIMSS in Atlanta March 1-4.
