Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust has become the second acute trust to sign up with PCTI’s Docman referral management system.

The trust will use the document management and workflow system, which is already familiar to many GPs, to manage incoming referrals and reduce its reliance on paper, fax and email.

Sandra Whitelock, ICT project manager at the trust said: “With the Docman solution we will be able to standardise our referral management system, by creating a single repository.

“Our clinical reviews and authorisation of referrals will be enhanced. The tracking and management of referrals will be greatly improved and this, in turn, will mean that we are able to respond to [inquiries from] patients and referrers more speedily.”

King’s College Hospital NHS FoundationTrust was the first acute trust to adopt the system in November last year.

PCTI managing director Ric Thompson said PCTI is working with another 70 trusts on projects to streamline processes, remove paper from care, and deliver quality, innovation, productivity and prevention programme savings.

“The solution ensures that there is an electronic record of all activity in relation to the management of every referral, commencing at the earliest possible point in the process.

“This improves the consistency of referral data for RTT management and helps to ensure care pathways have been streamlined,” he said.
