Laboratory information systems company CliniSys has been sold by ECI Partners to a private equity firm with a 250% return on investment.

The company, which provides laboratory information systems to the NHS, was bought by ECI Partners for £61m in 2007 and has been sold to Montagu Private Equity.

In 2004, CliniSys was selected by BT to deploy its pathology systems in London and the South as part of NPfIT and according to EHI Intelligence, the system is in use at 59 trusts.

ECI acquired the company in 2007 and Tom Wrenn, the partner who heads ECI’s TMT sector, said that CliniSys had increased sales and profits under the firm’s ownership.

The sale represented a 250% return on investement for the company.

“Today’s sale represents another successful transaction for ECI, and highlights our strong track record in and commitment to building international market leading businesses in the TMT sector,” he said.

CliniSys chief executive, Fiona Pearson, said that ECI had been a very supportive partner, helping the company grow internationally.

“We have a strong market position in Europe but there are still significant opportunities for us to expand further into new territories, and consolidate our position as a leading provider of laboratory information technology,” she said.
