Babylon Health founder and chief executive Ali Parsa is to be a keynote speaker at the Digital Health Summer Schools 2018.

Parsa, founder of pioneering artificial intelligence and digital health company Babylon Health, will open day two of Digital Health Summer Schools 2018, being held at the University of Birmingham on 19-20 July.

The event offers a rare opportunity to hear from the serial entrepreneur behind NHS GP at Hand, often referred to as one of the most disruptive digital health services in the NHS.

The company he leads has dominated the headlines of Digital Health News this year. GP at Hand, which is available on the NHS in London, has been the subject of an advertising blitz across the capital. Babylon says it is providing a new convenient model of digital primary care services, which are proving extremely popular with thousands signing up.

But the NHS service has also proved controversial, criticism including a protest in east London.

Critics, and there are plenty, including leading figures from the RCGP and BMA, accuse the company of cherry picking the young and healthy and destabilising general practice services. Others accuse the service of being unproven and under-regulated.

But speaking exclusively to Digital Health, GP at Hand’s medical director Mobasher But hit back at these concerns, saying they were “not justified”.

Whatever your view, there can be no doubt that Babylon and GP at Hand have quickly become the most high profile digital pioneer in UK healthcare, at the crest of the wave of digital disruption.
