Cheshire and Wirral go live with electronic patient record from TPP

Cheshire and Wirral Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (CWP) have gone live with an electronic patient record (EPR) from TPP – becoming the first trust in North West England to deploy it.

CWP signed a five-year contract with TPP to implement SystmOne in their mental health and learning disability services last year. The mental health EPR will give the trust the tools to provide efficient, safe and user-centred mental health care.

The trust provides health and care services across Cheshire and Wirral, serving over one million people and highly specialist services in the North West for a population of two million. Services include mental health, learning disability, community physical health and all-age disability care.

The new EPR will bring several benefits in the long term, including:

  • Integration with local, regional and national systems used by partner care providers to allow information sharing to those with appropriate access
  • NHS Spine connectivity, enabling health professionals to access the national shared summary of patient information
  • Additional functionality which they plan to implement, including electronic prescribing and medicines administration, mobile working and a patient portal allowing patients to view and contribute to their record in a controlled and structured way

Anushta Sivananthan, medical director at CWP, said: “We look forward to continuing to work with TPP as we further develop our configuration of SystmOne.

“Our aim is to provide the best possible care for the people we serve and as we look to roll out the additional functionality available through SystmOne this will allow us to better support our people to work in a more person-centred way.”

It is not the first time that TPP, who now provide clinical systems to around 30% of mental health services in England, have made their presence felt in the digital health world this year, after they joined Allocate Software’s ‘connect programme’ to help create a more connected and interoperable world.

Abigail Palin, account manager at TPP, added: “TPP is pleased to see Cheshire and Wirral Partnership NHS Foundation Trust going live with SystmOne Mental Health.

“The Trust’s staff and patients will benefit from more integrated care in the area as well as a system that provides comprehensive support to staff, giving them more time to focus on delivering well-informed patient care.”
