eConsult partners with InterSystems to help expand solution deployment

eConsult Health is to implement InterSystems’ IRIS for Health platform to help expand the deployment of two of its solutions.

The partnership between the two will help the former accelerate its growth within the NHS and ensure its solutions (eConsult and eTriage) achieve full interoperability with NHS IT systems.

eConsult Health will draw on the advanced capabilities of the InterSystems IRIS for Health platform. The platform has been engineered specifically to allow for a seamless integration of proprietary data with the clinical data already in existence. It also ensures full compliance with mandatory data standards, such as Fast Health Interoperability Standards (FHIR) and HL7 V2.

Additionally, InterSystems IRIS for Health can be deployed on all major public clouds, so it can fully integrate with eConsult health’s deployment in AWS Cloud. The deployment will make it easier for the company to benefit from high-performance, machine learning-enabled applications that connect data and application silos.

Rex Cooper, chief technology officer at eConsult Health, said: “InterSystems IRIS for Health is extremely powerful, proven and fully accepted by the NHS, and vitally for us, the InterSystems team brings with them a wealth of experience in NHS environments.

“This decision will free up our team, enabling them to fully concentrate on the development and growth of our advanced triage and remote consultation solutions, confident in the knowledge our data will be fully interoperable with NHS IT systems and support latest healthcare standards.”

Chris Norton, managing director, InterSystems, added: “We take a lot of pride in our new partnership with eConsult Health and how we will support their plans for growth. While we take care of all the fundamental data requirements for participation in the healthcare ecosystem, eConsult Health can concentrate on what makes it a market-leader – using digital innovation to improve patient journeys and optimise how doctors and clinicians use their precious time in both primary and emergency care.”

eConsult Health recently collaborated with CLEO systems to help improve patient pathways in urgent care.

  • Yeah – InterSystems is a database company. It struggled to make make an average product suite (TrakCare) work as it required a difficult business model transition (Product only -> Product and Service company). Just ask Stockport, Liverpool, Gloucestershire, North Devon etc.

At least they seem to be focussing on their core competencies – databases. I hope it works out for them as IRIS does look like a solid product.

  • This seems odd as the intersystems trakcare solution is hardly in any English trusts and has there have been significant data quality issues according to the NHSD Data Quality dashboard.
