CliniSys has acquired laboratory information management company Horizons Lab Systems as it looks to create one of the largest organisations dedicated to diagnostics and laboratory informatics in the world.

The acquisition is all part of CliniSys’ wider vision to include a new wave of digital diagnostics and laboratories across the care and community sector.

The deal means CliniSys will have access to Horizon Lab Systems’ cloud-based lab solutions and its expertise in environmental, water quality testing, public health, toxicology and agriculture laboratory solutions.

Horizon Lab Systems will be combined with Sunquest Information Systems, which is owned by CliniSys’ parent company, Roper Technologies. This newly combined group, operating under the CliniSys brand, will use innovation through diagnostics and lab informatics technology to promote better public health outcomes. It will also deliver pandemic-scale population disease surveillance globally.

Michael Simpson, CliniSys CEO, said: “With Horizon’s advanced cloud-based solutions and unsurpassed knowledge and expertise… CliniSys can now provide organisations and governments at all levels, and across different sectors of the public health ecosystem, solutions to improve health at population scale.”

The past year saw multiple pathology services roll out CliniSys’ WinPath Enterprise solution, including Scarborough Hull York Pathology Service, Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust and Northern Ireland’s pathology services. It has also introduced its GLIMS Genomics information system to the national genetics service in Belfast and to genomic laboratories in the UK.
