Devon and Cornwall Care Record goes live on Orion Health platform

The Devon and Cornwall Care Record is now live on the Orion Health Amadeus platform, enabling frontline staff to view key patient information from multiple systems across the patch.

The shared care record is the first phase of a larger project to allow the sharing of critical patient data across health and care systems in order to improve efficiency and deliver improved patient care.

Use of the shared care record reduces the need for patients to repeat their story or medical background,Ā  Staff, meanwhile, should save time by not needing to call around for the relevant information. All information will be available in a single record through Orion’s Amadeus shared records and population health platform.

Dr John McCormick, GP and clinical lead for the Devon and Cornwall Care Record, said: ā€œWe are developing the record progressively, in a controlled way, so we can be confident about the quality of the data that it contains, and how to use it.

ā€œHowever, it is already supporting my work as a GP. I can see whatā€™s going on with patients now in other parts of the system. Itā€™s also very positive for practice staff, because they donā€™t have to chase up letters or ring other services all the time, just to find out what is happening.ā€

The first phase saw two-thirds of GP practices in Devon and Cornwall come on board, as well as information sharing established with local acute trusts and mental health services.

The next phase will see more GPs, services and acute trusts added.

Later phases of the roll-out will follow and will add additional data to give healthcare professionals in Devon, Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly a more complete overview of a patientā€™s medical history.

Ian Binks, sales director from Orion Health, said: ā€œWe look forward to working with the Devon and Cornwall Care Record team to develop the record further, for the benefit of local health and care services, professionals, patients and citizens.ā€

The development of shared care records is a vital strand of the governmentā€™s digital health and social care policy. ICSs were expected to have at least a basic form of shared care recording in place by September 2021.

Orion Health also worked with Joined Up Care Derbyshire, with the regional ICS signing a 10-year partnership deal, including a shared care record.
