Wilmslow Health Centre has gone live with the Medicus Health electronic patient record (EPR).
Medicus is the first supplier to be fully assured through NHSE’s Tech Innovation Framework, which aims to ensure that new products are fully compliant on information governance, clinical safety and data protection, while integrating with NHS infrastructure such as the electronic prescription service, NHS e-Referral Service and NHS App.
The Medicus Health EPR was recently announced by NHS England as the first new core IT system for 25 years.
Wilmslow Health Centre moved from its previous GP system to Medicus over the space of one weekend, officially going live on 12 May 2025.
Dr Amar Ahmed, GP partner at Wilmslow Health Centre, said: “Switching to Medicus has been a transformative step for Wilmslow Health Centre. The transition was relatively seamless, and we are already experiencing the benefits of a more intuitive, integrated, and efficient system.
“As GPs, we need technology that supports our clinical decisions, enhances patient safety, and streamlines our workflow.
“Medicus has delivered on all these fronts, and we are proud to be the first practice in the UK to embrace this next-generation solution.”
The EPR combines core clinical functionality with integrated communications, online consultations, prescribing and document management.
It integrates First Databank’s (FDB) Multilex prescribing decision support, a drug database and e-prescribing decision support solution, to allow context-specific drug knowledge and better functionality, with the hope of helping to reduce prescribing errors.
Emile Axelrad, chief executive at Medicus, said: “We are so pleased to have gone live with our solution at Wilmslow Health Centre, it was a really easy transition from the old system and the team there are doing brilliantly.
“We’ve been working so hard on our solution and when building a best-in-class prescribing module, we know that we needed prescribing decision support that GPs could immediately trust.
“That’s why our partnership with FDB Multilex is essential to the success of Medicus. Multilex powers dosage suggestions for prescribers and lets us show comprehensive drug safety alerts and warnings based on the patient record.”
Medicus is available to practices across the country and is already live in three other early-adopting sites, serving more than 42,000 patients, including those at Wilmslow.
It is expected more core GP IT systems that meet the standards of the Tech Innovation Framework will become available by April 2026, offering a wider choice for practices.
Medicus Health was one of eight suppliers to be included on the Tech Innovation Framework in November 2022, following the framework’s launch in June 2022.
