Two national keynotes have been added to the Digital Health Summer Schools 2025 conference programme, which has been published in full today.

Summer Schools is a residential two-day education and networking event dedicated to current and aspiring digital health leaders, taking place on 17-18 July 2025 at the University of Warwick.

Dermot Ryan, director of transformation at NHS England has been added to the programme as a keynote. He leads the NHS’ efforts in accelerating the adoption of digital technologies such as electronic patient records.

Ryan will speak about the next steps for frontline digitisation on day two of the event.

Dr Wajid Hussain, chief medical information officer (CMIO) at NHS England and chief clinical information officer (CCIO) at Royal Brompton and Harefield Hospitals.

He will take part in the day two ‘tilt to digital’ keynote session with national chief nursing information officer (CNIO) Helen Balsdon, where he will address the latest developments in clinical safety, digital literacy and patient portals.

More than 60 speakers are now confirmed across 35+ plenary sessions and workshops. Highlights include:

  • Ming Tang, interim chief digital and information officer and chief data and analytics officer at NHSE, talking about the role of digital in the forthcoming NHS 10 year health plan
  • Dr Jessica Morley, a former tech advisor for the UK government, who will cut through the hype exploring how AI can be used to support NHS values
  • Helen Balsdon, on the tilt to digital
  • Chief executives and senior teams from local Midlands trusts sharing transformation journeys
  • Acute NHS and ICB digital leaders on shifting care to the community
  • CCIO, CIO, CNIO, CSO and sponsor interactive workshops covering business skills, AI, electronic patient record (EPR), cyber business cases and developing culture

With an extra £10bn for NHS IT announced in June 2025, Summer Schools will allow CCIOs, CIOs and CNIOs to convene to digest the latest NHS policy and funding initiatives, and discuss how they affect NHS digital transformation.

Summer Schools is exclusively for members of the Digital Health Networks, the UK’s largest health IT community, and will be CPD accredited by the Federation of Informatics Professionals.
