BadgerNet maternity system to launch at Barts Health in 2026

Barts Health NHS Trust will launch the BadgerNet digital maternity solution in 2026, as part of a five-year partnership.

The system will enable expectant mothers and families to access information in multiple languages and easy-read formats, with the aim of giving them greater control and understanding throughout pregnancy and the postnatal period.

Integration of the system from System C will begin at the end of 2025, with go-live scheduled for 2026 to replace the trust’s current mix of digital and paper-based systems with specific digital records.

BadgerNet will link with the existing Oracle Millennium system to ensure that existing digital processes such as imaging, prescribing and neonatal care can remain consistent and interoperable.

Shereen Nimmo, director of midwifery at Barts Health NHS Trust, said: “Our population is richly diverse, and many of the mothers we support face complex challenges.

“With BadgerNet, we’re enabling safer, joined-up care while empowering families to better understand and engage with their maternity journey.

“We were particularly impressed by System C’s commitment to keeping pace with national clinical priorities and the ability to integrate BadgerNet with our existing digital infrastructure.”

The rollout aligns with the ambitions of the Best Start in Life programme being driven by North East London Integrated Care Board. As part of this initiative, Barts Health and its neighbouring providers are working to create a fully integrated maternity and neonatal network.

The goal is for clinicians to access a single, shared record for each mother and baby, regardless of where they receive care in the region to help reduce delays, duplication and disparities in care.

Meanwhile in February 2025, BadgerNet was connected to the Yorkshire and Humber Care Record and is now being used by six integrated care systems in the region.

Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Royal United Hospitals Bath NHS Foundation Trust and Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust have also announced plans to digitise their maternity services with BadgerNet.
