Hong Kong chooses Digital Healthcare

The University of Hong Kong, China, has selected Digital Healthcare’s OptoMize product for its diabetic retinal screening research programme.
The Optimize software has been installed at the Eye Institute at the Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine at the University of Hong Kong. The contract award followed a tendering process carried out in April 2009.
OptoMize was chosen because of its proven capability in supporting diabetic retinopathy screening programmes, already in use for 41 schemes across England and Wales currently covering 1.2 million diabetics.
The system is deployed in a wide range of geographical configurations, including in including mobile units, community clinics and hospital locations across varying technology bandwidths.
The Hong Kong University tender set out requirements including: storage and retrieval of patient demographics; archiving and backup of images; a call and recall system for patients appointments; a programme for grading of images; generation of report letters to GPs, patients and hospital consultants.
The system also had to be able to export its information in DICOM standard, and be compliant with the recommendations of the UK National Screening Programme for Diabetic Retinopathy. Another key requirement was to be able to integrate with the Hong Kong Hospital Authority Computer Management System.
