Barts Health NHS Trust, which provides services to 2.5m people in East London, has signed a ten-year contract with Sectra for a picture archiving and communications system and vendor neutral archive.

The trust, which was already using Sectra as its PACS supplier, went out to tender through the OJEU process in 2012.

By opting for Sectra again, it will be able to securely share images and patient information with other Sectra PACS users in London, such as the Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospital NHS Trust.

In a press statement, Luke Readman, chief information officer of Barts Health said: “Having a single PACS across Barts Health is a key step to providing integrated care and improving our service to patients.

“It will provide our consultants with real-time access to the full patients’ record of radiology images, scans and x-rays from any [of the six hospital sites, clinics and facilities that we run] across East London.”

The adoption of Sectra Open Archive will enable clinicians to see images from other image storage systems, as long as they are DICOM-compliant.

Sectra DoseTrack, a web-based solution that enables clinicians to monitor patient radiation doses, is also included in the contract.
