BT awards SeeBeyond £16m ‘data spine’ contract

  • 4 February 2004

SeeBeyond has been awarded a seven-year contract by BT to provide the core software for the transactional messaging service for ‘data spine’, as part of BT’s £620m National Application Service Provider (NASP) contract to deliver the central NHS Care Record Service (NHS CRS) component of the National Programme for IT.

Under the contract, worth approximately £16 million in revenue from license fees, services, maintenance and training, BT will use SeeBeyond’s Integrated Composite Application Network (ICAN) Suite 5.0 to design, deliver and manage the national patient record database and transactional messaging service, at the centre of NHS CRS.

As the core software for the transactional messaging service initiative, SeeBeyond’s eGate Integrator and eInsight Business Process Manager will serve as the Web services and J2EE-based integration platform for business process management.

Delivery of the personal demographics service module of NHS CRS will be facilitated by SeeBeyond’s eView Global Identifier, which will act as the basis of the NHS CRS to record and cross-index patient and care information electronically, eliminating duplication of patient files and improving information-sharing.

"With our extensive history in providing technology solutions to the healthcare market, it has always been our dream to integrate healthcare information on a national scale like the NHS National Programme for IT," said Jim Demetriades, founder and CEO of SeeBeyond.

He continued: "We believe this will change the way healthcare information is shared as well as improve the quality of care delivered. The effect of this initiative can have global implications, affecting the way countries manage patient information in the future."
