South Tees NHS Trust has implemented an electronic patient record system for patients with spinal injuries.
The system, MAXIMS Clinical from IMS MAXIMS, represents an upgrade from previous versions as it is web-based rather than using a client server model. This means that it can be used on thin clients and over external connections, subject to security policies.
Brian Ennis, CEO of IMS MAXIMS, said: "We have already seen a high degree of interest from the other spinal units in the UK and we look forward to working with the units to enable them to share appropriate information so that they can improve the quality of care."
The spinal care records combine the assessment information taken throughout the patient’s stay with historical care information, and supports the work of consultants, nurses, physiotherapists and occupational therapists.
Although the system is currently operating in a standalone capacity, the software would be able to fully share records to other departments or to GPs.
Professor Charles Greenough, clinical director of trauma and orthopaedics at South Tees, said: "We are pleased to now be live with this system and I look forward to seeing a step change in the management of our patients." Glynis Peat, lead nurse, trauma, added: "All the staff have worked very hard to help IMS develop a system which will improve communication and care delivery to all our patients."
IMS MAXIMS software is already installed in 25 locations across the UK and Ireland, including Blackpool, Fylde and Wyre and Hammersmith Hospitals NHS Trust.
