Ipswich Hospital NHS Trust IT has chosen Sophos products for email, web and endpoint security.

The trust is using the company’s ES4000 email and WS1000 web appliances, which update automatically as new threats are detected. It is also using Sophos’ Endpoint Security and Control to protect its desktops, laptops, file servers and mobile devices.

The new set up replaces a number of other products and was instituted following a review of the trust’s network security infrastructure.

"From an efficiency point of view, it was vital that we deployed a simple, easy to use but comprehensive solution," said Karl Kroger, senior technical support specialist.

"Having had a good experience with Sophos endpoint protection software, the common interface and additional gateway products means that all our security is now controlled in a much more intelligible way."

The trust delivers services to half a million people, and needs to defend 3,500 staff accounts from both email and web-based malware.

Sophos claims to protect more than 100 million users in around 150 countries. It says it is now finding a new infected webpage every five seconds, up from one in fifteen seconds in 2007. It says 90% of these are found on legitimate but infected websites.
