Tara Donnelly named as NHS England’s new interim digital chief

The chief executive of the Health Innovation Network, Tara Donnelly, has been confirmed as the new interim chief digital officer (CDO) at NHS England.

The current CDO, Juliet Bauer, announced on Friday that she would be stepping down from the role to join online GP provider, LIVI.

Bauer said on Twitter that she was ‘really delighted to hand the baton’ over to Donnelly.

She added: “You [Donnelly] have been a great support to Empower the Person and to me personally. Thank you.”

Donnelly, who has been a massive advocate for helping the spread of innovation in the health service, said she was looking forward to joining the team at NHS England.

The announcement of her appointment was met by huge support from others, including health secretary, Matt Hancock.

Others included NHS Digital chief executive, Sarah Wilkinson and Professional Record Standards Body (PRSB) chair, Maureen Baker.

  • Could Tara please list her main achievements in innovation in healthcare as I appreciate she has had significant time in this domain but am unsure of any successful outcomes?

  • For goodness sake NHS stop calling people ‘interim’ – either appoint them to the position on a permanent basis or not at all! It sends a terrible message to the outside world as it makes you think that Tara may not be there for very long and is not worth spending time with!
