The incoming boss of NHSX is to be a keynote speaker at Digital Health’s Summer Schools 2019.

Matthew Gould, the incoming CEO of NHSX, will be speaking on day two of the event.

In a Summer Schools exclusive, the new NHSX boss will also attend as a delegate to meet with and hear from the diverse range of NHS CCIOS, CIOs, CNIOs and Future Digital Leaders taking part.

NHSX is the brand-new body set up by secretary of state for health and social care, Matt Hancock, to ensure that staff and patients have the technology they need.

As CEO of the new unit, Gould has said his priorities are to reduce the burden on clinicians, to put services and information into the hands of citizens, and to ensure that clinicians can safely access patient data.

For the past three-years, Gould has been the Government’s Director-General for Digital and Media Policy, working closely with Hancock who was previously minister of state for digital at the Department of Culture, Media and Sport.

Gould was previously the UK’s ambassador to Israel where he set up the UK-Israel Tech Hub, and has also served as the UK Government’s Director of Cyber Security. As well as Israel, he has done postings in Tehran, Islamabad, Washington and Manila.

He will join a stellar line-up of already announced Summer Schools keynotes:

  • John Halamka, CIO Beth Israel Medical Center
  • Prof Margunn Aanestad, University of Oslo
  • Rob Webster, Chief Executive of South West Yorkshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust and lead Chief Executive of West Yorkshire and Harrogate ICS
  • Tom Riordan, CEO of Leeds City Council
  • Tara Donnelly, Chief Digital Officer, NHS England

Sarah Wilkinson, CEO of NHS Digital, will be guest speaker at the pre-Summer Schools networking evening on 17 July.

Digital Health Summer Schools, 18-19 July, is the essential annual meeting of local and national NHS IT leaders, focused on best practice exchange, education and networking.

The event is open to CCIO, CIO and CNIO members of Digital health Networks, plus aspiring Future Digital Leaders.

Summer Schools will again include the Summer Schools Hack Day, 17-18 July, bringing together trust development teams with start-ups, developers and leading technology suppliers to very rapidly build and demonstrate working proof of concepts.

A busy social programme will include the pre-Summer Schools networking evening on 17 July and Summer Schools dinner, including the Digital Health Awards, on 18 July.

Early bird rates are available until the end of May.
