Amazon Web Services is launching a four-week virtual programme tailored to accelerating growth for healthcare start-ups.

The AWS Healthcare Accelerator is designed to help healthcare companies solve some of the industry’s biggest challenges. Its goal is four-fold – to cultivate and promote start-up solutions that: improve patient experience, improve clinician experience, better health outcomes and lower cost of care.

It’s open to operations that are based in the US or who have existing US operations and who have an established product-market fit with existing customers and revenue. The programme is tailored to accelerate growth in the cloud, focusing on solutions like remote patient monitoring, voice technology, analytics, virtual care and patient engagement.

Run in collaboration with KidxX, AWS will select 10 healthcare start-ups to receive mentoring, resources and other opportunities.

This includes AWS Promotional Credit; potential poor of concept opportunities with public sector healthcare customers; AWS training; mentoring from healthcare domain and technical subject matter experts; business development and go-to-market guidance; and investment guidance. Plus there is also the opportunity to collaborate with AWS healthcare customers and partners who are looking for innovative healthcare solutions.

Applications are now open and proposals should be received by 23 July 2021. AWS said individual applications will be judged on several factors including the innovative nature of the project, the overall value of the solution to the healthcare industry and the team’s ability to deliver on an identified opportunity.

While AWS Healthcare Accelerator has a US focus, closer to home health tech innovation is also a key focus for the UK. In the last quarter of 2020, Deloitte launched the Health Tech Catalyst, a health tech innovation hub in Birmingham. While in March this year, Peppy Health was crowned the winner of Digital Health Rewired Pitchfest 2021, an initiative to help start-ups scale their ideas.
