A Rewired Pitchfest finalist has partnered with Themis to provide a digital consent platform as part of clinicians’ clinical defence policy.

Concentric Health, which took part in the 2021 edition of Pitchfest, specialises in a digital consent while Themis provides contractual medical malpractice indemnity insurance for medical professionals.

The collaboration between the two, believed to be first of its kind, will see Concentric’s digital consent application offered as part of Themis’ policy to all new and renewing policyholders.

Dr Dafydd Loughran, Concentric Health’s CEO,  said: “I believe this ‘first of kind’ agreement is an exciting step for the digital health ecosystem, with the recognition that digital can be a key element of  ‘what good looks like’ and the opportunity to drive adoption with financial incentives direct to clinicians.”

During the final of the Rewired Pitchfest 2021, Concentric Health lost out to Peppy Health – an app that connects people going through challenging health stages, including menopause, fertility and parenthood.

Other finalists included MediShout, an app that digitises operational processes to save time; and Tekihealth Solutions, a remote diagnostic solution that helps provide clinicians offer immediate medical intervention.

Pitchfest 2021 was run in partnership with Digitalhealth.London and CW+, the charitable arm of Chelsea and Westminster NHS Foundation Trust.

You can hear more from Loughran on a special Pitchfest episode of Digital Health Unplugged, which looked into what it’s like to be a start-up in the NHS.

In this episode, the four finalists of Rewired Pitchfest speak about their journey as a start-up, the impact of Covid and their experience of Pitchfest. They also discuss how things are moving in the start-up space and what advice they have for others looking to working with tech in the NHS.

Before Concentric Health took part in Pitchfest, it received £350,000 funding from Innovate UK. The company was founded by Loughran, who is a surgeon and Edward St John, an NHS and academic surgeon.
