❓Did you know?

Data from PocDoc‘s Healthy Heart Check suggests that more than half of young adults in the UK might have a ‘heart age’ older than their actual age.

‘Heart age’ is a vital barometer of a person’s health and is informed by a number of metrics, including height, weight, cholesterol levels and blood pressure.

It can indicate those individuals who are at a higher risk of cardiovascular disease. The findings show that more than half (52%) of individuals aged 28 to 40 fall into this category.

For those between 30 and 40 years old who have an accelerated heart age, the difference averages five years older than their chronological age. Among 25 to 30-year-olds, almost a third (32%) display an older heart age.

PocDoc says that the figures highlight a growing concern about cardiovascular health risks emerging in younger generations and a potential gap in early health monitoring, as current NHS health checks typically begin at age 40.
