Edinburgh-based picture archiving and communication system (PACS) software specialist Voxar, has won a contract to supply the Royal Bournemouth Hospital’s radiology department with its 3D imaging software. Voxar’s imaging software allows the rapid rendering and display of 3D medical scan images from computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and positron emission tomography (PET) on standard PC hardware or embedded into PACS The 3D imaging software will be integrated into the hospital’s PACS workstations and will allow radiologists to access advanced MPR and 3D reconstruction functionality wherever and whenever they want it. A site licence for 22 concurrent users has been ordered. According to the company having the software available on every PACS workstation at the trust should help the trust increase productivity, enhance diagnostic outcomes and improve communications with referring clinicians who are intensive users of radiology images. Dr Russell Bull, consultant radiologist at the Royal Bournemouth and Christchurch Hospitals NHS Trust commented: “We chose Voxar in order to give us full CT and MRI 3D workstation functionality on every one of our radiologists PACS workstations. The ability to view the CT images in multiple planes is essential when reporting routine multi-detector CT (MDCT) studies." Dr Bull added: "I also firmly believe that having one or two expensive modality 3D workstations is totally inadequate for today’s radiology department. The ideal solution is to have a cost-effective 3D software application running on every PC in the department, ideally integrated into every PACS workstation.” Alison Sinclair, Voxar’s European sales channel manager said: “The installation of the Voxar site-wide 3D software license represents the largest UK installation for Voxar.” Founded in 1995, Voxar claims to be the fastest-growing medical imaging business in the UK.
