FileVision, a US-based office software developer has announced it is launching an off-the-shelf electronic Single Assessment Process (eSAP) package designed to meet NHS standards.

The FileVision eSAP solution provides care professionals with the ability to store, view and change patient assessments online, and share information with other professionals across the NHS, social services, the independent sector and voluntary agency providers of health and social care.

FileVision’s vice president for Europe, David Miller, told E-Health Insider Primary Care that the Department of Health’s requirement that all social care and NHS trusts have one single assessment system inspired the company to move into the already popular market.

“Following the success of our integrated document management systems, we felt that moving to electronic systems was the next step. There is a big market for electronic Single Assessment Process (eSAP) systems as more and more patients are being treated in the community and there is more and more of a push for data to be held in coordinating agencies within communities.”

Miller added: “We have worked hard to ensure that the system meets the requirements of the Department of Health and Connecting for Health. The system is now also capable of connecting to the Spine, but it is not spine accredited yet.”

FileVision has previous healthcare experience, having provided integrated document management, imaging and workflow solutions to trusts, including: Hull and East Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust, Cromwell Hospital, London Bridge Hospital, Guys and St Thomas’ Hospital NHS Trust and University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

FileVision says its eSAP solution can also be used in community settings to collate data and assessments. Tools on the system include an electronic clipboard, pocket PC and voice dictation machines, which automatically upload captured assessments when the practitioner returns to their base, avoiding dual entry of assessment information.

Miller said: “An increasing emphasis is being placed on treating the patient in the community. This is coupled with the need to accommodate multi-agency work practices, and to ensure the solution works equally well outside the ‘wired’ hospital and clinic environment.

“Our solution is easy to use and very intuitive – our electronic filing system for example is a replica of a physical filing cabinet and its contents, and our electronic patient forms mimic paper ones.”

FileVision are now looking to roll out the system to interested NHS trusts or local authorities.

Miller said: “We are talking to many trusts and local authorities now and hope to be able to roll out the system on a large scale. We would be very interested to hear form anyone looking to standardise their assessment processes for caring for older people. FileVision ensures this process is a seamless one by providing SAP practitioners with a range of low cost, low risk and low tech tools to be used in the field to collate data and assessments.”
