- The trust previously used OneAdvanced’s Carenotes EPR
- Post go-live staff experienced issues accessing and using the new system which have now been resolved
Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust has gone live with an electronic patient record (EPR) supplied by TPP.
The SystmOne EPR was launched on 2 February 2026 to store and manage healthcare information at the trust, with the aim of ensuring that clinicians have up-to-date and accurate information.
It is hoped to improve communications between teams and partner organisations, reduce duplication and paperwork and support better digital integration with other local NHS services.
Dr Oliver Dale, chief medical officer at Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, said: “People relying on our care quite rightly expect us to have the information we need to care for them effectively at our fingertips.
“This new system will help us support the Sussex Health and Care Integrated Care System to provide better, faster, more coordinated care and will reduce the need for people to have to repeat their story as they move through our services.”
However Dale added that there had been some initial challenges with the EPR rollout.
“Change can be difficult, and with a change of this size we had anticipated that there would be challenges.
“In the first few weeks we have seen issues with staff being able to access and use the system, which we know has been frustrating and disruptive.
“However, with significant effort and focus from colleagues and teams across the trust we are now in a much better position and staff are starting to get into the rhythm of using the new system,” he said.
Sussex Partnership previously used OneAdvanced’s Carenotes EPR, however in November 2024 Digital Health News revealed that the firm was removing the EPR from its product portfolio.
The trust said the OneAdvanced EPR system had reached end-of-life and could no longer be used beyond early 2026.
Dale added: “Over the coming weeks and months, we will be looking at the things we can do to ensure that we are using the new system to the best of its capabilities.
“This will include a standardisation of the types of forms we use in our processes to improve how we can collect and compare our data.
“I’m heartened to see that already in these early days we are starting to receive positive feedback and see examples of how the new system is improving our practice as we work more closely with our partners to provide joined-up care for the communities we serve.”
TPP’s EPR is already widely used across Sussex, including by Sussex Community NHS Foundation Trust and East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust, Surrey and Borders Partnership NHS FT, and around half of GP practices in the region.
In August 2024, Sussex Community NHS FT awarded a 10-year contract extension for an EPR system from TPP, worth almost £6.3 million. The contract was described as a “collaboration” between Sussex Community alongside East Sussex Healthcare, Surrey and Borders Partnership NHS FT, and Sussex Partnership.
