North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust (NCIC) has gone live with phase one of its electronic patient record (EPR), following an intervention by NHS England which delayed the launch.

The trust signed a 10-year contract with Alcidion in February 2025 to roll out its Miya Precision EPR. The system is intended to enable mobile working, streamline patient flow, support clinical decision-making and provide clinicians with real-time access to a unified patient record.

NCIC confirmed on LinkedIn that the system went live on the morning of 12 May 2026, thanking “everyone who has played a role today in making the go-live run smoothly so far”.

Andy Laverick, chief information officer and director of digital at NCIC, said: “This go-live marks a significant milestone in the trust’s digital transformation journey and provides an important foundation for more connected, real-time clinical and operational workflows across our services.

“Delivering a programme of this scale is only possible through strong partnership working and the commitment shown by colleagues across NCIC alongside teams from Alcidion throughout planning, preparation and go-live support.

“The significant contribution of our digital teams and clinical leadership and engagement shown by our nursing teams throughout Phase 1 have been critical to reaching this milestone.

“The focus now turns to supporting colleagues through stabilisation, continuing to learn from the early deployment experience, and building on these foundations as we move into Phases 2 and 3 of the programme, ensuring the trust realises the long-term benefits for both staff and patient care.”

NCIC had originally planned to roll out the system on 3 March 2026, but NHS England intervened beforehand and informed the trust that they were not able to approve any go-lives at that time.

The trust told Digital Health News earlier this year that it “had no significant local safety, technical or governance concerns and were on track for go-live”.

The 10-year contract followed a July 2024 announcement naming Alcidion as the preferred bidder for the EPR.

Miya Precision will support care delivery across emergency, inpatient and outpatient services. Clinical workflows will be supported by real-time patient flow management and clinical documentation tools designed for all clinical roles.

The cloud-hosted, web-based system will also include a smartphone app, giving care teams access to the full patient record.

Paul Deffley, UK managing director and chief medical officer at Alcidion, said “Going live with phase one of NCIC’s EPR using Miya Precision is a proud moment for everyone who has been part of this programme.

“The feedback from the wards has been fantastic, and that speaks to the incredible commitment of NCIC’s clinical and digital teams who have worked hard to get to this point.

“North Cumbria serves a half a million people across rural and remote communities, so having a platform that brings everything together and puts it in the hands of clinicians wherever they are is going to fundamentally change the way care is coordinated and delivered.

“It’s exactly the kind of programme that demonstrates what a modern, modular EPR can achieve for an NHS trust.”
