BridgeForward launches European interface engine

BridgeForward Software has launched a new interface engine called Edge4, designed especially for the European market.

The product is based on the ClearSpan Server, used extensively in the US and is aimed at ‘reducing the challenge and cost of application integration for ‘best of breed’ software suppliers who must integrate their solutions into their customer’s legacy environment.’

BridgeForward’s senior vice president, Kevin O’Brien, said: "Any ‘best of breed’ software supplier in healthcare will tell you that the weakest link in their solution is its ability to integrate into the customer environment.

"The lack of control, documentation and standardisation is a major source of delay, cost and support headaches. Edge4 solves that problem."

Edge4 is an embedded integration layer that allows for fast integration into other applications. It provides application suppliers with a standardised integration platform for every install.

BridgeForward says that Edge4’s small footprint implementation is key to making it easily embeddable. Key integration features include a feature-rich, high throughput interface engine, easily embedded native scripting/automation tools for ‘non-invasive’ integration to closed, legacy systems and a flexible data format support including HL7 2.x – 3.x; FTP; email and TCP/IP.

Based on an open architecture design, Edge4 can also connect to any other interface engine installed at a customer site using a datamapper, rules-based engine; adapter library and adapter SDK.

O’Brien added: "HL7 certainly helps but it is often not enough. As a result, most software suppliers have to develop their own integration tools and one-off integration routines or rely on their customer’s interface engine – if available. Edge4 will help to solve this problem."
